General Information

  • Our treks are designed for experienced riders who enjoy responsive horses and a small group.

  • No EFTPOS or Credit Card facilities available.
  • Due to the smaller size of our horses, we have a rider weight limit that ranges between 70kg and 80kg.

  • Maximum 4 riders.
  • We have a selection of riding helmets, boots, chaps and gloves available.

  • Please wear comfortable full length trousers and riding boots or sturdy shoes.

  • We will ask you for your height and weight and an honest assessment of your riding ability to match you with the right horse. If you are unsure about your riding ability, please check our list below. 

  • We reserve the right to cancel rides if weather conditions are not suitable.

  • Make sure you bring your camera and your sense of humour!

Levels of riding ability

  • BEGINNER: A rider with little or no experience.
  • NOVICE: A rider who is comfortable and in control at the walk and/or trot but has limited experience trotting and/or cantering.
  • INTERMEDIATE: A rider who is confident and in control in all paces (can rise to the trot, two point canters and gallops), but does not ride regularly.
  • STRONG INTERMEDIATE: An intermediate rider who is currently riding regularly and is comfortable in the saddle for several hours per day.
  • ADVANCED: All of the above plus the ability to handle a spirited horse in open country.

Safety: The safety of our horses and clients are paramount. While every effort is taken to match one of our horses temperaments with the riders ability, it is important to remember that a horse has a mind of its own and so a good account of your riding experience and ability is imperative to ensure you have an enjoyable time. 

 

All reasonable steps are taken by Orepuki Horse Treks to mitigate accidents, however, horse riding, as with any sporting activities has its risks and all riders do ride at their own risk.

 

Riders must wear protective helmets supplied for the entire time for their own safety.

 

Please advise Orepuki Horse Treks of any medical conditions or medication that you need to carry with you. We would ask that you notify us of any conditions that may hinder your ride. 

 

On arrival, please ensure that you have read and fully understand the terms and conditions by completing the waiver form.
